Renewal Information and FAQ’s
All Florida Hair Braiders, Hair Wrappers, and Body Wrappers must complete a 2-hour HIV/AIDS continuing education update course each renewal period.
There are no other CE requirements for these registrations.
How do I complete this course and receive credit?
After purchase, the course reading material and exam are immediately available for you to access. You can get started on the course right away, or wait until you are ready. The course is self-paced and can be completed whenever it works for you.
After a passing score (75%) is achieved, a certificate will be available for you to download and print. We will automatically receive a notification of your exam completion, and we will report your hours to the Bureau which tracks continuing education for the Florida Board of Cosmetology.
What if I do not see my hours reported after 24 hours?
Check your transcript to make sure you provided us with the correct license number, then contact us here.
What if I have both hair wrapper and hair braider registration/ licenses?
You only need to complete this course once. Provide both license numbers when taking your 2-hour HIV course exam. Then the course will be reported for both licenses upon successful completion of your course exam.
Do I need to report my completed continuing education hours?
No. Florida board-approved providers must report completed CE within 30 days of completion, or 10 days if it is near the October 31st renewal date, to The Bureau of Education and Testing.
We are a Florida Cosmetology Board-Approved Provider, and we will report your credits within 24 business hours of completing your exam.
How do I renew my registration/ license?
Once you successfully complete your course exam, you can log in to your account on the DPBR website and complete the renewal process and pay the required renewal fee.
How much does it cost to renew my registration/license?

- Hair Wrapping – $25
- Body Wrapping – $25
The above fees include a $5 unlicensed activity fee.
When is my renewal deadline?
This course must be completed by October 31st every two years. Check the expiration date on your license to see if this is your year to renew.

My registration/license is inactive, how can I get it active again?
It is quite easy to get your license from inactive to active. For hair braiders, hair wrappers and body wrappers, the continuing education requirement for registration renewal is a 2-hour update of the HIV/AIDS course. Then pay the renewal fee. There are no late renewal fees, but you cannot legally perform these services without an active registration/license.

What is a Hair Wrapper?
A hair wrapper is licensed to wrap materials around a strand or strands of human hair for compensation. This includes multi-strand cotton or polyester blend, twisted, not braided, into a single embroidery or yarn thread.
This does not include the following cosmetology services: cutting, coloring, perm techniques, relaxing, waxing, threading, weaving, braiding, or hair extensions.
What are the requirements to become a registered hair wrapper in Florida?
- Complete a two-day, 12-hour Cosmetology Board-Approved Hair Wrapper Course
- Pay the Hair Wrapper Registration Fee of $25

What is a Hair Braider?
A hair braider is licensed to perform weaving or interweaving human hair for compensation.
This does not include the following cosmetology services: cutting, coloring, perm techniques, relaxing, waxing, threading, wrapping, or hair extensions.

- Complete a 2 day, 16 Hour Cosmetology Board-Approved Hair Braiding Course

What is a Body Wrapper?
A body wrapper is licensed to perform body wrapping. This is a treatment program that uses pre-soaked herbal wraps for the purposes of cleansing and beautifying the skin.
This does not include the following: massage therapy, facial esthetics, or any other cosmetology services.
What are the requirements to become a registered body wrapper in Florida?
- Complete a one-day, 6-hour Board-Approved Course
- Pay the Body Wrapper Registration Fee of $25

What if I am a Licensed/Registered Hair Braider, Hair Wrapper, or Body Wrapper in another state and I am moving to Florida?
Hair braiders, hair wrappers, and body wrappers are not eligible for endorsement. You must attend a Florida Board Approved program to complete your registration. Again, this does not include licensed cosmetologists who are eligible for endorsement.
Are hair wrapping, hair braiding, or body wrapping services required to be performed in a state licensed salon?
No, a salon license is not required to perform these services. However, if you work at a salon, the salon must be licensed.
Florida rules state that if hair braiding, hair wrapping, or body wrapping services are performed outside a state licensed salon, the implements used must be disposable or sanitized between clients.
Who can legally offer/perform threading, tinting, or hair extensions services in Florida?
A cosmetologist, full specialist, or facial specialist can perform the following services:
- eyebrow threading
- eyelash or eyebrow tinting
- applying false eyelashes
Only a cosmetologist can perform the following services:
- adding hair extensions
- adding feathers to hair
- adding strands of tinsel to hair
Can any hair braiding, hair wrapping, and body wrapping services be performed without an active registration/license?
No, all of these services must be performed by a person that licensed/registered in the given specialty in Florida, or a Florida licensed cosmetologist.
